Why I switched from supporting Ranked-Choice voting to STAR voting

I first learned about Ranked Choice Voting after Maine began considering it. Paul Lepage had recently won the governorship with 37% of the vote despite his deep unpopularity. Lepage has advocated for the use of the guillotine, challenged state lawmakers to duels, and compared the IRS to the Gestapo. His victory would not have been possible except he ran against three other strong candidates who split the vote.
